Violinist and musicologist Amina Srarfi is the first woman conductor and orchestra leader in the Arab world. In 1992 she founded the first Arab women’s orchestra for classical Arabian music: »El Azifet«, or »The Female Musicians«, play Oriental instruments such as the oud, darbuka, tar, kanun and ney. The concert at the Laeiszhalle is an exercise in musical bridge building: the Tunisian women’s orchestra is joined by the female musicians of the Deutsche Akademische Philharmonie, conducted by Amina Srarfi.
