Half a century ago, Christoph Eschenbach – who is this season the new chief conductor of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin – was one of those rare talents personally supported by the great Herbert von Karajan. For many years now, Eschenbach has himself mentored promising young musicians. Two of those can be seen performing in this concert: Christian Mason, born in 1984 and therefore still very young for a composer, writes commissions for a number of major orchestras. And Kian Soltani, the soloist for Haydn’s famous Cello Concerto, despite still being in the early stages of his career, has already given highly successful concerts with several orchestras and released his debut album with Deutsche Grammophon in 2018.
