For a whole weekend Anoushka Shankar – sitar virtuoso, daughter of Ravi Shankar and a cosmopolitan musician nominated for six Grammy awards – is in charge of the music at the Elbphilharmonie. Her latest programme, »Love Letters«, is an intimate homage to the power of friendship among women.
As one of today’s best sitar players, Anoushka Shankar carries on her famous father’s legacy in her own remarkable way. This includes seeking exchange with other genres: with the Berlin Philharmonic as much as with DJs, folk musicians, and jazz artists like  Herbie Hancock and her half-sister Norah Jones. But Anoushka has also had difficult times to overcome, with health problems and heartache. These are reflected on her album »Love Letters«, which she produced together with female musicians like the Turkish singer-songwriter Alev Lenz: a hymn to friendship between strong women.
