Description

Wim Mertens is a Belgian composer and countertenor, and he also plays the piano and the guitar. His compositions are influenced by American minimal music, and the distinctive high countertenor voice plays a key role in his oeuvre. In a career spanning almost 40 years, Wim Mertens has written short, accessible songs, large-scale cycles and works for a broad range of instrumentations. In the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall he takes to the keys himself, accompanied by a violin. In the programme »That Which is Not«, a recurring theme in Mertens’s works becomes crystallised – the »No« and the »Not«.
