Description

For Claude Debussy there was no doubt about it: »Don’t listen to anyone’s advice, listen to the wind that blows through the air and tells us the tales of the world«. His stage work »Le martyre de Saint Sébastien« is based on a very colourful text by the Italian poet Gabriele d’Annunzio; with its mixture of blatant eroticism and religious ecstasy, Debussy provoked a veritable scandal at the premiere in Paris. The work is performed far too seldom. Sylvain Cambreling now performs it in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall together with the Symphoniker Hamburg, the Europa Chor Akademie Görlitz and a line-up of well-known soloists.
