»Nur in der Träne des Schmerzes spiegelt sich der Regenbogen einer besseren Welt.« Diese tröstenden Worte stammen von dem großen Dichter des 19. Jahrhunderts Friedrich Hebbel. Und in dem Saisonmotto »Doch Himmelsbogen.« der Symphoniker Hamburg spielt der Regenbogen freilich eine bedeutende Rolle. Der Regenbogen als Tröster und Hoffnungsspender: von Kinderhand an ein Fenster gemalt, als Zeichen der Toleranz auf Shirts und Fahnen gedruckt – oder als bezauberndes meteorologisches Phänomen am Himmel bei einem Spaziergang.
Igor Strawinskys Leben verlief in Wellen. Vom frühen Skandal-Erfolg des »Sacre« hin zu Neoklassizismus-Experimenten und wieder zurück. Strawinsky wurde steinalt, 88 Jahre. Dieses Glück hatte seine Tochter Ludmilla nicht, die mit knapp 30 Jahren 1938 an Tuberkulose starb. Strawinsky suchte Trost und Ruhe auf dem Landsitz Dumbarton Oaks bei Washington D.C.
Besonders heilsam und tröstend erschien ihm die Musik von Johann Sebastian Bach, die er in seinem »Konzert für Kammerorchester Es-Dur«, das den Beinamen nach seinem Entstehungsort bekam, sogar explizit zitiert. Entsprechend erklingt Bach in diesem Konzert vor Strawinsky. Die dritte Orchestersuite enthält auch das berühmte »Air«; eine der wohl bekanntesten Melodien: tröstend, schreitend, besinnend singend.
Zugelassene Trauer, Strawinskys Bach-Hommage – und am Ende eine Barock-Hommage von Richard Strauss: der spätromantische Meister des musikalischen Humors in Bestform. Eine bessere Welt. Eine Welt voller Anekdoten.

Since 1908, the Laeiszhalle has been a meeting place for Hamburg's musical life. The neo-baroque Laeiszhalle Grand Hall accommodates over 2,000 guests. (Please note: The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.)

Facilities for ladies are located behind the cloakrooms on all floors. Facilities for gentlemen can be found on the landing between the floors, also located behind the cloakrooms.
A fully accessible toilet for persons with mobility disabilities is located behind the cloakroom on the ground floor (Parkett links).

We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.
