In den Jahren 1901 und 1910, als die Münchner Philharmoniker noch Kaim-Orchester hießen, leitete kein Geringerer als Gustav Mahler die Uraufführungen seiner 4. und 8. Sinfonie, und im November 1911 gelangte mit dem inzwischen in Konzertvereins-Orchester umbenannten Ensemble unter Bruno Walters Leitung Mahlers »Lied von der Erde« zur Uraufführung. Die Münchner Philharmoniker können nicht nur auf eine beeindruckende Liste mit Uraufführungen großer Werke verweisen, sondern auch auf eine stattliche Zahl hochkarätiger Dirigentenpersönlichkeiten. Chefdirigenten waren unter anderem Felix Weingartner, Hans Rosbaud, Rudolf Kempe, Sergiu Celibidache und James Levine. Seit September 2004 ist Christian Thielemann Generalmusikdirektor des traditionsreichen Orchesters. »Bis ein deutscher Pianist vom Grade Kempffs wieder Beethoven spielen sollte, brauchte es in Berlin Jahrzehnte.« So konnte man es in einer Sendung von rbb Kulturradio anlässlich des 125-jährigen Bestehens der Berliner Philharmoniker hören. Gemeint war der 1970 in Düren geborene Lars Vogt. Eine langjährige Zusammenarbeit verbindet Vogt mit Sir Simon Rattle, der mit ihm bereits 1995 Beethovens Klavierkonzerte Nr.1 und 2 einspielte. In der Saison 2003/04 war Vogt »Pianist in Residence« der Berliner Philharmoniker. »Vogt ist kein schillernder Selbstdarsteller, er ist ein Musiker durch und durch«, ließ Rattle damals verlauten.

Since 1908, the Laeiszhalle has been a meeting place for Hamburg's musical life. The neo-baroque Laeiszhalle Grand Hall accommodates over 2,000 guests. (Please note: The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.)

Facilities for ladies are located behind the cloakrooms on all floors. Facilities for gentlemen can be found on the landing between the floors, also located behind the cloakrooms.
A fully accessible toilet for persons with mobility disabilities is located behind the cloakroom on the ground floor (Parkett links).

The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.
We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.
