The sea in sound

In the final concert of its international tour, this world class, 90-member youth orchestra from Brisbane, Australia gives its debut performance in Hamburg. As Kapellmeister of the Hamburg Opera from 2005-2008, and Principal Conductor of the Hamburg Ballet from 2008-2020, Simon Hewett is no stranger to Hamburg audiences, and has conducted over 500 performances of ballet and opera in the Hafenstadt.

The majority of the musicians are from Brisbane, Queensland, and appropriately for 2 cities located close to the ocean, the concert in Hamburg starts with Debussy’s masterful depiction of the sea »La Mer«. The outstanding young Queensland soprano Nina Korbe joins the orchestra for Ravel’s enchanting Shéhérazade (settings of a text by Tristan Klingsor), and the performance concludes with Rachmaninov’s glorious Symphony No. 2.
