»Zusammengestohlen aus verschiedenem diesem und jenem«, vermerkte Beethoven zu Opus 131, um seinen originalitätssüchtigen Verleger zu ärgern. Tatsächlich verkörpert das Werk, das der Komponist für sein bedeutendstes Streichquartett hielt, musterhaft den innovativen Spätstil seines Schöpfers - und sorgte für eine Uraufführung mit Hindernissen: »Muß es ohne aufzuhören durchgespielt werden? - Aber dann können wir nichts wiederholen! - Wann sollen wir stimmen?« Die sieben ineinander übergehenden Sätze bereiteten den Musikern des Schuppanzigh-Quartetts 1826 Kopfzerbrechen und stellen bis heute eine der großen Herausforderungen der Quartettliteratur dar. Da trifft es sich gut, das Werk in den Händen eines so experimentierfreudigen Ensembles wie des 1999 gegründeten Quatuor Ebène zu wissen. Die vier jungen Franzosen, die sich ihren kammermusikalischen Feinschliff u. a. bei György Kurtág und beim Ysaÿe Quartett geholt haben, zählen zu den Shooting Stars der Szene und stellen die Frische ihres Musizierens immer wieder auch durch Ensemble-Improvisationen unter Beweis. Für die Zuhörer gilt also die Empfehlung eines Beethoven-Rezensenten von 1828: »Lassen Sie sich dann gefallen, dass bald nur Ihr Denken, bald nur Ihr Empfinden, bald nur zu unbestimmtem Spiele Ihre Phantasie in Bewegung gesetzt wird …«

We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.
