Description

Clara Wieck achieved international fame long before her future husband Robert Schumann. She performed at Leipzig’s Gewandhaus as a nine-year-old wunderkind, and composed a piano concerto ten years before Robert completed his own concerto in A minor. The first drafts date back to 1833, when Clara was just thirteen. She completed the work two years later and gave the first performance with the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester in the same year. It was first performed in the Apollo Saal in Hamburg on 8 April 1837, a major concert hall in the city. Native Hamburg musician Alexander Krichel now brings Clara Schumann’s remarkable early work back to the Hanseatic city.
