Der Todeskampf jener Motte, die in Alexander Skrjabins ‚Vers la flamme’ einer Kerze zu nahe kam« – so beschreibt Esa-Pekka Salonen den Inhalt seiner Komposition »Yta III«. An dieses »hässlichste und gewalttätigste Stück«, das der Finne nach seiner eigenen Einschätzung jemals schrieb, wagt sich der vielfach ausgezeichnete Cello-Shootingstar Nicolas Altstaedt. Pekka Kuusisto, als Gast beim Finnen-Festival »Rantakala« und beim Ensemble Resonanz schon ganz heimisch in Hamburg, kontert mit Salonens Geigensolo »Lachen verlernt«. Künstler, so der Hintersinn dieses Werktitels, sind ernste Clowns, die ihren Hörern Gefühle zurückgeben, die sie längst verloren haben. Kuusisto und Altstaedt zumindest sind solche Künstler – ein abenteuerlustiges Duo, das weder wilde Geräuschmusik noch zarten Schönklang scheut. Und gemeinsam interpretieren die beiden neben vielen neuen Werken auch zwei Klassiker ihrer seltenen Instrumenten-Kombination: Ravels Sonate, in der bisweilen »das Cello wie eine Flöte klingen soll und die Violine wie eine Trommel«. Und Kodálys Duo, das ungarische Folklore kunstvoll verarbeitet.

Please note: There are several construction sites in the immediate vicinity of the Laeiszhalle which may make it difficult to get to the concert. Please therefore plan enough time for your journey to the concert.
The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.
We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.
