Am 1. September 1715 starb in Versailles der französische König Louis XIV, der »Roi-Soleil«, der sich am liebsten als Lenker des Sonnenwagens sah, als Helios, der Licht und Leben spendende Sonnengott. Er allein regierte als Zentralgestirn in einer hermetischen Welt der Macht und der Repräsentation. Er personifizierte die heroische Epoche des französischen Grand Siècle, er war schlichtweg »der von Gott und der Vernunft eingesetzte Mittelpunkt des irdischen Koordinatennetzes«, wie der Kulturhistoriker Egon Friedell schreibt (der gleichwohl im allgewaltigen Ludwig nur eine »vergoldete Dekorationspuppe« und »Theaterfigur« erblickt). Ob Gott oder Puppe, das Leben des Sonnenkönigs war von Musik umgeben: Bei den Morgenempfängen, den Mahlzeiten oder abendlichen Gesellschaften, bei Spaziergängen im Park, in der Messe, auf Reisen, bei Militärparaden, Jagden oder Wettkämpfen - stets wurde zur Erbauung oder zum Ruhme des Königs musiziert. Der französische Cembalist Christophe Rousset und Les Talens Lyriques widmen ihr Konzert den »Musiciens de la chambre du roi«, den Kammermusikern seiner königlichen Majestät: von François Couperin »le Grand« über Marin Marais, den epochalen Meister des Gambenspiels, bis zu Jean-Féry Rebel, einem Geiger der »Vingt- quatre Violons du Roi«. Und von Jacques-Martin Hotteterre, dem legendären Flötisten, über die vom König entdeckte Komponistin Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre bis zu dem für seine »Cantates françoises« gepriesenen Nicolas Clérambault.

Since 1908, the Laeiszhalle has been a meeting place for Hamburg's musical life. The neo-baroque Laeiszhalle Grand Hall accommodates over 2,000 guests. (Please note: The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.)

Facilities for ladies are located behind the cloakrooms on all floors. Facilities for gentlemen can be found on the landing between the floors, also located behind the cloakrooms.
A fully accessible toilet for persons with mobility disabilities is located behind the cloakroom on the ground floor (Parkett links).

We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.
