55 Years of LJO Hamburg

With around 80 to 100 musicians aged between 14 and 25, the Landesjugendorchester (Hamburg State Youth Orchestra) promotes and represents Hamburg’s top young musicians. The oldest youth orchestra in the Hanseatic city was founded in 1968 as a self-governing orchestra and will celebrate its 55th anniversary in 2023. At least twice a year, the LJO Hamburg works on major works of orchestral literature in order to perform them at a high level in and around Hamburg. With the Seventh Symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, the orchestra presents a very large-scale, impressive masterpiece of orchestral literature in its anniversary year.
