Jubiläumskonzert »190 Jahre Hamburger Singakademie«
Am 25. November 1819 gründeten sieben Hamburger Bürger die »Gesellschaft der Freunde des religiösen Gesanges«, die 1844 den Namen »Hamburger Singakademie« annahm. Unter den 71 Sängerinnen und Sänger waren Angehörige namhafter Familien wie etwa Chapeaurouge, Sieveking, Mönckeberg, Lutteroth, Schlüter, Schmilinsky, Benecke und von Goßler. In den ersten Jahren wuchs die Zahl der Chormitglieder auf 206 (1823) Die Chorproben dienten nicht allein dem Gesang, sondern war darüber hinaus ein fester Bestandteil des Hamburger Gesellschaftslebens. Die öffentlichen Funktionen (u. a. Senatoren, Landrichter) und Namen der 1. Secretaire und 1. Vorsitzenden zeigen, dass die Hamburger Singakademie bis nach dem 2. Weltkrieg in der Hamburger Gesellschaft verankert war. Der Chor war von Beginn an bis 1934 durch ihre gemeinsamen musikalischen Leiter mit der Philharmonischen Gesellschaft, dem späteren Philharmonischen Staatsorchester, und auch vertraglich mit zeitlichen Unterbrechungen bis 1990 mit ihr verbunden. Große chorsinfonische Werke der verschiedenen Epochen wurden unter dem jeweiligen Generalmusikdirektor der Philharmonie aufgeführt. Seit 1990 führte die Hamburger Singakademie ihre Konzerte überwiegend mit eigenem Programm und auf eigenes wirtschaftliches Risiko durch. In den letzten zehn Jahren hat sich die Hamburger Singakademie unter ihrem musikalischen Leiter Professor Cornelius Trantow ein neues Profil gegeben: Es werden vor allem Werke zeitgenössischer Komponisten aufgeführt.

Since 1908, the Laeiszhalle has been a meeting place for Hamburg's musical life. The neo-baroque Laeiszhalle Grand Hall accommodates over 2,000 guests. (Please note: The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.)
