Ferdinand von Schirach
Lecture and Reading
Over the last few years, in his double life as a criminal defence lawyer and author, Ferdinand von Schirach has become one of the most exciting figures in the German-language literary scene. In his latest book »Kaffee und Zigaretten« (Coffee and Cigarettes), he weaves together autobiographic stories, notes and observations into a narrative whole, in which the personal and the general come unusually close in the author’s world. In addition to the reading from his new book, Ferdinand von Schirach is also giving a lecture on the topic of »enlightenment«, in which he argues that, in a heterogeneous European society, we can live together in future not in agreement, perhaps, but in peaceful disagreement.
