Description
An organ concert in the Mojo Club on Hamburg’s notorious Reeperbahn – how does that work? It’s actually quite simple: Cameron Carpenter, enfant terrible of the organ music scene, has finally achieved what he has been dreaming of for years: the creation of a digital organ with high-tech loudspeakers that can emulate or even surpass the magnificent sound of conventional pipe organs, but which is also easy to transport. Carpenter has never cared much for conventions or preconceived notions of organ music: »We have ignored the violence of the organ, the sexuality, the sensuality, passion and its all-consuming fire. When I play, the flamboyance, the banality, the shallowness can suddenly be pushed away by some ecstatic attack.« It comes as no surprise, therefore, that the ZEIT newspaper has described him as a »fallen angel« who »wants to give the church organ back its sinfulness«. Cameron Carpenter plays better with his feet than many pianists with their hands and doesn´t accept any technical or stylistic limitations. His performance at the Mojo Club opens a new chapter in organ history.

Founded in 1989, the Mojo Club is a music club on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. Until its closure in 2003, it was considered a pioneer in the field of modern breakbeat-oriented sounds such as acid jazz and had a major impact on dancefloor jazz. Reopened in 2013 under the Dancing Towers, the club offers space for up to 800 visitors on two levels and is also used as a venue for concerts.
