Description

Out of all the numerous Czech chamber music groups, two ensembles are particularly noteworthy: the Bennewitz Quartet founded in Prague in 1998, which has made an international name for itself, as well as the Belfiato Quintet, one of the most prestigious wind ensembles. Their mutual concert is dedicated to works by Antonín Dvořák and Leoš Janáček.

The strings perform Dvořák pieces including »Cypresses«, short pieces for string quartet based on poems. The winds perform »Mladi« (Youth), Janáček’s suite for wind sextet – a work composed for his 70th birthday in which he recalls his youth in Brno. For this piece, the composer added the bass clarinet to the standard wind quintet.

Both ensembles share the stage for Janáček’s Piano Concertino; the soloist is Lukáš Vondráček who won the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in 2016.
