Eine dramatische Geschichte rankt sich um das »Requiem« von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Ein geheimnisvoller Auftraggeber bittet den Komponisten, unter dem Siegel der Verschwiegenheit eine Totenmesse zu schreiben. Doch bevor er die Komposition vollenden kann, stirbt Mozart selbst, viel zu früh. Obwohl es nur zu etwa zwei Dritteln tatsächlich von Mozart selbst stammt (sein Schüler Franz Xaver Süßmayr hat das Werk vollendet), ist das Requiem eines seiner berühmtesten Werke.
Mozarts »Vespere solennes de Confessore« entstanden 1780, in seinen letzten Salzburger Jahren, und gelten als eines der herausragendsten Kirchenmusikwerke der europäischen Musikgeschichte. Sie folgen der katholischen Liturgie für eine Vesper und umfassen fünf Psalmen aus dem Alten Testament sowie das Magnificat aus dem Lukasevangelium. Das »Laudate Dominum« gehört zu den beeindruckendsten Sopran-Arien Mozarts.
Das »Pater Noster« des lettischen Komponisten Pēteris Vasks (* 1946) schließlich steht den beiden Werken Mozarts kontrastierend gegenüber. Seine schlichte Tonsprache, frei von dissonanten Ausbrüchen, zeigt seine tiefe Religiosität. Schon zu Sowjetzeiten war es dem Komponisten ein Anliegen, dem Volk durch seine Musik eine klare Stimme zu verleihen.

Since 1908, the Laeiszhalle has been a meeting place for Hamburg's musical life. The neo-baroque Laeiszhalle Grand Hall accommodates over 2,000 guests. (Please note: The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.)

Facilities for ladies are located behind the cloakrooms on all floors. Facilities for gentlemen can be found on the landing between the floors, also located behind the cloakrooms.
A fully accessible toilet for persons with mobility disabilities is located behind the cloakroom on the ground floor (Parkett links).

Please note: There are several construction sites in the immediate vicinity of the Laeiszhalle which may make it difficult to get to the concert. Please therefore plan enough time for your journey to the concert.
The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.
We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.
