When ambitious young musicians are nominated for the »Rising Stars« concert series, this is their big chance. Thanks to an initiative of the European Concert Hall Organisation, the star performers of the future have the opportunity to appear at major concert venues normally reserved for the crème de la crème. And the audience, in turn, has the unique chance to experience artists on the threshold of their international breakthrough, so that they can say in years to come: »Oh, I heard him back when he was just starting out«. Only the Elbphilharmonie offers music lovers the opportunity to hear all six candidates in a festival format with full-length concert programmes in the space of a single week.

There is Austrian violinist Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, to name one example, winner of the prestigious Brahms Competition. Or the percussionist and ARD prizewinner Christoph Sietzen, who is well on the way to challenging former Rising Star Martin Grubinger.

Swedish viola player Ellen Nisbeth has already worked with Leif Ove Andsnes and Daniel Hope, while Dutch singer Nora Fischer has appeared alongside Steve Reich and the Kronos Quartet.

Incidentally, all this and more background information on the Rising Stars and the works they’ll be playing can be heard in a relaxed chat with the artist an hour before the concert. Another Elbphilharmonie special!
