How does a concert actually work? Who decides who performs on stage and what is played? Who decides where the audience sits and what colour the lighting in the auditorium should be? Does an orchestra always have to play sat down and does a rock band always need to be in a club? How do you advertise a concert so that the audience gets wind of it? How do you design a program booklet and what is actually happening backstage while everyone in the audience is listening to the music?

All questions we get to the bottom of in our hands-on project »How to Concert«. Over the course of five workshops, young people aged between 15 and 18 are given an exclusive insight behind the scenes of the Elbphilharmonie and get to develop their very own concert with experienced mentors. Working together, they choose the artists who will perform, put together an exciting programme, take care of the lighting and sound technology concept, and come up with ideas for some charming introductions and commentaries between works. The finished result can be experienced in May 2025 when the concert is set to be performed on three separate dates in the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall.

Workshop dates:
21 & 28 September | 10:00-13:00
12 October & 16 November | 10:00-17:00
In order to participate you must agree to attend every workshop.

The workshops are open to young people between the ages of 15 and 18.
Participation is free of charge.
No previous musical knowledge is required – everyone is very welcome.
