Aurora Orchestra / Abel Selaocoe / Nicholas Collon

Abel Selaocoe‘s fascinating cello concerto »Four Spririts« and Beethoven‘s Seventh Symphony in the Grand Hall.

»When I‘m spontaneous, I‘m at my best.« When the acclaimed cellist, singer, and composer Abel Selaocoe takes his seat, seamlessly blending singing, playing, and improvisation, the entire hall is electrified. Raised amidst the traditional songs of South Africa and the cello suites of Johann Sebastian Bach, Selaocoe‘s music is a captivating fusion of these influences. In his cello concerto »Four Spirits«, he weaves stories of his spiritual connection to deceased ancestors, the freedom of childhood, and the power of community and solidarity to rousing effect.

He is accompanied by the Aurora Orchestra, celebrated worldwide not least for its remarkable ability to perform entire symphonies from memory. While this might seem daunting to some, it is a liberating experience for the London-based ensemble. Without the barrier of music stands, the musicians can fully immerse themselves in the music. Under the baton of Nicholas Collon, Beethoven’s famous Seventh Symphony transforms into a fresh and intense experience – music that exudes pure joy.
