Abel Selaocoe and the Aurora Orchestra

South African cellist and composer Abel Selaocoe presents his cello concerto »Four Spirits« together with the young Aurora Orchestra.

Joined by the British Aurora Orchestra, the successful cellist, singer and composer Abel Selaocoe presents his cello concerto »Four Spirits«. »When I‘m spontaneous, I‘m at my best«, says the native South African.  When he takes his seat, seamlessly blending singing, playing, and improvisation, the entire hall is electrified. Raised amidst the traditional songs of South Africa and the cello suites of Johann Sebastian Bach, Selaocoe‘s music is a captivating fusion of these influences. In his cello concerto »Four Spirits«, he weaves stories of his spiritual connection to deceased ancestors, the freedom of childhood, and the power of community and solidarity to rousing effect.

At the concert on 1 March 2025, the Aurora Orchestra also performed Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. Watch the concert stream here.
