This edition of the Festival of Contemporary Music is dedicated to the subject of »intoxication«, and promises top hits from Boulez to Varèse, as well as present-day compositions. As always, events are held at Kampnagel and the Elbphilharmonie. In a sobering demonstration of how ecstatic frenzy can also manifest collectively in the form of a mass movement, the opening evening features the sensational rediscovery of a nightmarish contemporary document from 1924: Hans Karl Breslauer’s silent film »Die Stadt ohne Juden« (The City without Jews).
