Wiener Johann Strauss Orchester / Johannes Wildner
Viennese New Year’s Concert
On the banks of the blue Elbe
The unique Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra has been continuing the artistic legacy of the Wiener Strauss-Kapelle since 1966, after the latter was disbanded by Eduard Strauss I in New York in 1901. Eduard Strauss II, the grandson and last professional musician from the Strauss dynasty, revived the concept of a family ensemble when he founded the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra. The orchestra has been performing around the world ever since, presenting the works of the Strauss dynasty – most notably the festive melodies of their artistic ancestors, the two »waltz kings«, Johann Strauss (the Father) and Johann Strauss (the Son).
