Discover Talent: Lukas Sternath
Schubert / Brahms / Prokofjew
The unconventional artist
»Always stay down-to-earth,« said Lukas Sternath, laughing into the camera, after he had just won the prestigious ARD Music Competition in Munich in autumn 2022. And the Viennese musician with the pleasant manner seems pretty relaxed indeed on the back of such success. This is presumably his secret: he believes in authenticity as one of an artist’s top virtues. Sternath only found his way to classical music and to constant piano practice via an interest in jazz and a time as a chorister with the Wiener Sängerknaben, but then it was with all the more awareness and intensity.
An unconventional career path, which Igor Levit undoubtedly found persuasive: since summer 2022, Lukas Sternath has been a student of the exceptional pianist at the Hanover College of Music. It will be interesting to see what fruits their cooperation bears!
