Symphoniker Hamburg / Europa Chor Akademie Görlitz / Sylvain Cambreling
»Liturgical Moments« / Lux aeterna
As a child, Franz Schubert found sermons frightening, and he felt stifled and imprisoned by his strict religious upbringing. As a composer, he therefore afforded himself great freedom when dealing with the liturgical texts prescribed for masses. His bold final mass is so monumental that the amateur church choirs of his time were not up to the challenge. Before that work, Sylvain Cambreling and the Symphoniker Hamburg perform a »Polish Requiem«: Szymanowski’s heartfelt and vivid »Stabat mater« creates an enchanting goosebump atmosphere. It is sung, in Polish of course, by the Europa Chor Akademie Görlitz.
