Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra / Daniel Harding
Pettersson / Schumann / Berlioz
British conductor Daniel Harding made his conducting debut as a 15-year-old with a boarding school orchestra in Manchester. Sir Simon Rattle heard him perform and appointed him as his assistant a few years later. He received further stimulus from Pierre Boulez and Claudio Abbado, who liked to describe him as »my little genius«. Harding now gives a guest performance at the Elbphilharmonie with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and star Russian violinist Alina Ibragimova. The programme includes Robert Schumann’s rarely performed Violin Concerto and an orchestral work by Allan Pettersson, one of the most important twentieth-century Swedish composers, as well as individual movements from Hector Berlioz’s epic symphony »Roméo et Juliette«.
