Arvo Pärt’s Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten for a string orchestra of 10 and bell opens this concert by the Sinfonieorchester Eppendorf. In this early work by Pärt, bell sounds form a structural framework for the multi-layered string sound. The piece closes with a final bell toll that reverberates for a long time, leading over into Johannes Brahms’s Requiem.
