The guitar as kaleidoscope
Once again in January 2024, the Rising Stars festival brings exciting young artists to the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall for one whole week. The festival gets underway with the Edinburgh guitarist Sean Shibe. According to BBC Music Magazine, the Scottish artist’s debut album was »not just great guitar playing, but the best we’ve ever heard«.
With confident virtuosity, Sean Shibe feels equally at home playing the classical and the electric guitar, and that in a broad range of genres. For this concert, he has selected a programme that extends from the Middle Ages to the present day. He thereby presents a kaleidoscope of what’s possible on the guitar: from the ancient to the modern, the intellectual to the emotional, the virtuosically bombastic to the delicately evanescent.
