Staatskapelle Dresden / Christian Thielemann
Mendelssohn / Bruckner
»We are looking forward to returning soon if we’re invited,« declared Christian Thielemann modestly after his triumphant Elbphilharmonie debut together with the Staatskapelle Dresden in February 2017. It’s fair to say that the ten minutes of resounding applause after that concert was equivalent to a spontaneous invitation to come back. This venerable orchestra made skilled use of the new hall’s clear acoustics, filling the space with its warm sound: simply phenomenal!
So another chance to hear this perfect combination of artists performing great Romantic repertoire is eagerly anticipated. The Bruckner symphonies seem predestined to be brought to life by Thielemann’s subtle conducting. And with Frank Peter Zimmermann he has a soloist at his side who is evenly matched: Zimmermann’s simple perfection has been delighting audiences for years.
