Pianomania: Alexander Krichel
Chopin / Schumann
From Hamburg to the international stage of classical music stars: raised and educated in Hamburg and London, Alexander Krichel – who is still not yet 30 years old – already has several CD recordings and concert performances across the globe to his name. His debut album even won him an ECHO Klassik award as ‘Newcomer of the Year’. For his performance at the Elbphilharmonie he presents a programme of Romantic pieces.
Frédéric Chopin’s Études Op. 10 are regarded as classics of the form. They are not practice works for budding pianists but suspenseful character pieces, with the famous »Revolutionary Étude« representing the climax of the cycle.
Schumann’s »Symphonic Études« were written just a few years later and they played a key role in his personal life. The composer’s great love, Clara, performed the piece publicly in 1837 as a sign of her affection, emboldening Schumann to enter into a secret engagement with her.
