»Round Midnight«
The Quatuor Ebène is considered to be one of the best string quartets of our time. It is well-known for its youthful lightness as well as technical perfection and receive worldwide praise time and again for its recordings. This time the quartet has created a concert, together with the distinguished musicians Nicolas Altstaedt and Antoine Tamestit, which is dedicated to the mother of all muses: the night.
Accordingly, the musicians have put together an original programme. At the time considered scandalous, Schönberg’s powerful sextet »Verklärte Nacht« (Transfigured Night) is thought to be a compositional foreshadow of modern music. Also on this evening, the quartet sends out the nocturnally enchanted sounds of »Ainsi la nuit« by Henri Dutilleux through the Laeiszhalle.
Similarly, darkness illuminated by twinkling stars is the inspiration for the sextet »Night Bridge«, which Quatuor Ebène composed itself. It is a soundtrack to the dreamy and romanticised hours between dusk and dawn – a night concert.
