Philharmonic Chamber Music Concert
Argento / Vivaldi / Hurník
»Singing is the foundation of music in all its aspects.« With this Telemann dictum in mind, the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra opens its chamber music season with a baroque programme that draws links with both modernity and the world of song – doing so using only musicians from its own ranks: Maria-Isabella Jung plays the oboe and cor anglais in the orchestra and now takes centre stage as a singer.
In addition to classics from the baroque repertoire by Vivaldi and Telemann, the programme includes an aria by their contemporary Melchior Hoffmann, which was attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach for a long time, as well as two 20th century works by Dominick Argento and Ilja Hurník. The elements that link the works include the baroque ensemble instrumentation and the use of the harpsichord that is so characteristic of the age.
