Peter Moore
Rising Stars
Unlike the trumpet, you very rarely see the trombone played as a solo instrument. One of the masters of the trombone is Peter Moore, who won the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year when he was just twelve years old. In Hamburg Moore takes to the stage with the Texan chamber music pianist Jonathan Ware.
Works originally written for the trombone are few and far between. Peter Moore nonetheless concentrates on these rare original compositions in his programme. The first half of his concert is an all-French selection – the »Concerto sur des thèmes de Henicken« by Christian Gouinguené (b. 1941), for example, and the Sonatine by Messiaen pupil Jacques Castérède.
After the interval, Moore presents a completely different side of his instrument to the audience: the trombone sounds all lyrical and cantabile in works by Brahms and Gershwin, and in a piece specially commissioned for this »Rising Stars« concert from the Polish composer Roxana Panufnik.
