Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France / Mikko Franck
Dukas / Weinberg / Vasks
»Hardly anyone at all knows Mieczysław Weinberg,« claimed German weekly Die Zeit. Yet he is »one of the most important Russian composers«. The oeuvre of Weinberg, who lived in two different dictatorships, is still waiting to be discovered. His Cello Concerto of 1948 is certainly a discovery: sensuous, full of gentle sounds and refined rhythms that product an exceptionally dense atmosphere, especially when a cellist as sensitive and virtuoso as Sol Gabetta is performing the solo part.
