Orchestre National de France / Daniil Trifonov / Cristian Măcelaru
Ravel / Skrjabin / Franck
In all colours
»Scriabin composes as if he was improvising,« says the pianist Daniil Trifonov, revealing the secret of the Russian composer originally responsible for getting the teenage Trifonov interested in the piano in a serious way. How lucky for the world’s music lovers! Today, the New York-based musician is one of the best pianists and Scriabin interpreters of our time. We have him to thank for the fact that the Piano Concerto in F Sharp Minor, with its exclusive harmonies, has found its way back onto concert programmes.
And talking of refined sounds, the synaesthete Scriabin has a partner in spirit in César Franck: when composing for orchestra, the renowned Parisian organist was also always guided by an ideal image of his instrument. His only symphony is a fascinating example of sublime sound development in all the colours of music.
