Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment / Sir András Schiff
Beethoven & Haydn – Hamburg International Music Festival
Top tier
The Swiss broadcasting company SRF is probably not alone in thinking that Sir András Schiff »ranks among the very best Beethoven interpreters«. Above all, his recordings of the complete 32 piano sonatas a few years ago were unanimously praised by critics and music lovers around the world. Now the grand seigneur of the piano is going on tour with Beethoven’s Piano Concertos. Here at the Elbphilharmonie, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is performing Nos. 3 and 4, with which Beethoven expanded the solo concerto genre to symphonic dimensions. Given Schiff’s profound understanding of sound design and musical details, these impressive works are in very capable hands.
