Mediations on the creation of sound

»Clavier« – Back in Johann Sebastian Bach’s day, this word was used to describe an entire family of instruments with the most diverse tonal qualities. Nils Frahm picks up this idea as he takes to the stage of the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall with his vast collection of keyboard instruments.

The largest piano model in the world can be found in Nils Frahm’s studio in Berlin’s legendary former GDR state radio station. The Una Corda piano with its fragile tones has been revived by Frahm, in collaboration with piano expert David Klavins. For almost two decades now, Nils Frahm has been pursuing his mission of (re-)expanding the tonal capabilities of the piano.
