NFM Wrocław Philharmonic / Giancarlo Guerrero
Poland
Alongside his position as music director of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Costa Rican conductor Giancarlo Guerrero has led the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra since 2017. Now, as part of the concert series of Polish music, he gives his debut at the Elbphilharmonie with the elite Polish ensemble.
Alongside Chopin’s rarely played Piano Concerto No. 2, he has chosen Lutosławski’s Third Symphony, a masterstroke of symphonic modernism in which the musicians play their phrases in rhythmical independence.
The programme also includes an ingenious orchestral version of the Adagio from Anton Bruckner’s String Quintet, composed by the legendary Polish conductor Stanisław Skrowaczewski.
