»Neptune Frost«
Elbphilharmonie+ / Film Screening
Matalusa has fled from his job in the coltan mines in order to escape from the authoritarian regime in Burundi, which exploits the country’s resources and its people out of pure greed. In a village constructed from recycled computer parts he meets the intersexual hacker Neptune, who carries Matalusa off to a world of undreamt-of possibilities. The Afrofuturist science fiction musical Neptune Frost, created, filmed and produced by American rapper Saul Williams and his wife Anisia Uzeyman, had its premiere at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, and garnered international praise from the critics. The film has been playing in US cinemas since June, and is scheduled for release in Germany on 24 November. It can be seen as a preview (original with subtitles) in the Zeise-Kino as part of the »Spotlight on Afrofuturism«.
Discount: On presentation of a ticket for a Focus »Afrofuturism« concert in the Elbphilharmonie Recital or Grand Hall, you will receive €1 discount on a ticket for this film screening.
Elbphilharmonie+ is a programme that opens up different ways of looking at the music performed at the Elbphilharmonie – either to supplement a concert, or as an experience in its own right. Interdisciplinary encounters and exhibitions form part of the Elbphilharmonie+ programme, as do concert talks and films shown in museums, libraries, cinemas and community centres.
