Unplayable – this ascription has been applied to several pieces in classical music history, including Sergey Prokofiev’s powerful »Symphony-Concerto« for cello and orchestra. Cellist Truls Mørk takes on the challenge as he is reunited with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra.

With his sensitive yet forceful style, the Norwegian is regarded by many experts as one of the best in his field. He is joined by the Slovakian conductor Juraj Valčuha, who has been a regular guest with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra since his debut in 2014. For his first programme of the 2016/17 season, he has chosen two other Russian pieces to accompany Prokofiev’s cello concerto: Lyadov’s magical sound study »The Enchanted Lake« and Rachmaninov’s last work, the »Symphonic Dances« op. 45.
