In this very special piano recital, Matthias Kirschnereit pays tribute to Hamburg composers. One of these is Fanny Hensel, one of the few female composers of her age – she wrote more than 450 works, but because of her gender she never got the chance to pursue her desired profession. The »Variations sérieuses« cycle by her brother Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy is one of the most important piano cycles of all time, and is known to be one of Kirschnereit’s favourite pieces. As is Brahms’ last piano sonata, the Sonata No. 3 in F minor, which brings the concert to a close.
