Mathias Weber / Piano Recital
Chopin / Brahms / Liszt
When the piano virtuoso Franz Liszt was touring Europe in the 19th century, Frenchman Sébastien Érard rose to become the world’s leading piano builder. The sound and the playing technique of the Érard instruments, forerunners of the modern concert grand, had a strong influence on the music of Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin and Schumann, and for more than 200 years, the Érard company was one of the most important piano manufacturers in the world. One of today’s greatest Érard lovers is Mathias Weber, pianist and professor at the Hamburger Konservatorium, who has been putting on a special Érard festival since 2016. Weber now makes a guest appearance in the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall with his two Érard pianos, dating from 1840 and 1857, and a tailor-made programme of music.
