The discovery of the French mezzosoprano Marianne Crebassa has already been celebrated on a number of major stages. The singer has attracted attention with the slightly dark timbre of her voice and through her collaboration with Fazıl Say.

Crebassa has already given striking performances of Fazıl Say’s compositions inspired by the protests in Istanbul’s Gezi Park, in which Say captures in sound the shocking images of impotence and the feelings of an uncertain future in a powerful way. Wherever he performs as a composer and unconventional interpreter, Say establishes connections between east and west, past and present, improvisation and the written form, as well as between different genres: »He is not just a brilliant pianist, he will without a doubt be known as one of the great artists of the twenty-first century.« (Le Figaro)

However, it is not only works by Fazıl Say himself that feature on this lieder recital programme in the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall. Crebassa and Say also take the audience to France, performing rich, colourful works by Ravel, Duparc, Fauré and Debussy.
