Not a second of idling

Thanks to the Lucerne Festival Academy founded by Pierre Boulez and now led by Wolfgang Rihm, new and the latest music play a central role at the traditional Lucerne Festival. And with the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra there is in the meantime an excellent ensemble whose young musicians focus on 20th and 21st century scores.

Visions as a package: If you buy three or more concerts of the »Elbphilharmonie Visions« festival at the same time, you will receive a 30% discount on the ticket price. To do so, select »Visions Trio Bonus 30%« in the shopping basket.

Under the baton of Sylvain Cambreling, the piano is heard at first as a kind of »bodiless voice«. That is how the English Wolfgang Rihm pupil Rebecca Saunders described her piece »to an utterance« for piano and orchestra, which had its first performance in Lucerne in 2021.

After this we hear the orchestral triptych »Core-Turn-Boost« by Swiss composer Dieter Ammann, which blends a wide variety of influences (among them jazz) into a compelling style dense with events and of great colouristic refinement. Or, to use the words that Wolfgang Rihm once found for Ammann’s music: »The music doesn’t idle for one second, it’s full of life and permeated by force lines in the best sense«.
