The same material and the same unconditional love as in Wagner’s »Tristan«: for his oratorio »Le Vin Herbé« (The Potion), Frank Martin used the version of the old Tristan legend in which Joseph Bédier brought together all the recorded variants – a historical concentrate and a twentieth-century answer to Wagner at the same time. Radical, but no less sensuous for that.
