»I couldn’t do anything else but music. Since I was six years old, anything else has been unthinkable.« Driven by this unassailable passion, Turin-born Antonello Manacorda set sail for the world’s concert halls at an early age. But not entirely without changing course. The Italian musician was initially on the way to becoming a star violinist and was appointed concertmaster of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra in 1994 by none other than the conducting legend Claudio Abbado, before founding the Mahler Chamber Orchestra with Abbado just a few years later. That was an encounter that left its mark.
