Jessye Norman. Ein Porträt
Film screening – Reflektor André Heller / Elbphilharmonie PLUS
Portrait of an opera legend
The soprano Jessye Norman enchanted her public for decades with her velvety warm voice and almost astounding range of over three octaves. At the age of 23, she won the 1968 ARD Music Competition and subsequently got a contract with the Deutsche Oper Berlin. This enabled her to be one of the first black opera singers to make the leap to the great stages of the world. She sang at La Scala in Milan and at the Salzburg Festival with conductors including Claudio Abbado and Herbert von Karajan.
In the 2005 film »Ich leb allein in meinem Himmel, in meinem Lieben, in meinem Lied«, she gives intimate insights into her philosophy and talks to André Heller about her life and her music, her biography, her inspirations and friends, but also about her fears and the challenges which life as a superstar involves. Between the biographical scenes filmed in the fantastically beautiful paradise garden »Jardin Majorelle« in Marrakesh, the film also presents a selection of her ultimate favourite pieces, which she sings in elaborate costumes against lovingly designed sets.
Please note: This film will be shown in German.
