Bringing new ideas to old things

Pianist Jason Moran and bassist Christian McBride make up a very special jazz duo – they now perform at the Elbphilharmonie as part of Max Richter’s »Reflektor« festival. Richter and Moran share an all-embracing artistic approach. Among his role models, Moran cites painters such as Gustav Klimt, filmmakers like Jim Jarmusch and architects such as Mies van der Rohe. For him, artists in other disciplines are just as important and influential as the great jazz musicians. Musically, Moran takes a modernist approach that brings »new ideas to old things«.
