Hamburger Camerata
Lutosławski / Schumann / Haydn
The Hamburger Camerata makes its debut at the Elbphilharmonie. For this notable occasion, conductor Simon Gaudenz has put together a programme that combines emotional extremes. In the first part of the concert, we hear one of Robert Schumann’s last works – the long underestimated Violin Concerto in D minor – and Lutosławski’s Funeral Music for Béla Bartók. After the interval, Haydn’s Symphony No. 90 and Ligeti’s »Concert Românesc«, inspired by Rumanian folk music, bubble with musical sparkle and joie de vivre.
This evening also gives the audience a chance to hear violinist Albrecht Menzel again. The Hamburger Abendblatt enthused about one of his last appearances with the Hamburger Camerata: »Menzel throws himself fearlessly and flawlessly into double stops, arpeggios and other devices«.
